Donation Policy

Our Vision

To raise the level of awareness of The Kings Mutual Insurance Company (Kings Mutual) as being a responsible member of the Community.

Our Goal

To enhance the Kings Mutual profile in the Community as an example of Good Corporate Citizenship through focused programs in support of key value areas.

Our Focus

Kings Mutual and its staff recognize the importance of making a contribution to the Province of Nova Scotia as being an integral part of our corporate responsibility.

Our contribution to the community is founded on five key areas:

• Local Health

• Loss Prevention

• Community Welfare

• Environment/Agriculture

• Youth Development

• Kings Mutual prefers to make donations to organizations with formal charitable status.

• Kings Mutual will only consider support of non-charitable organizations when the end-use of our funds is fully known.

• Kings Mutual aims to ensure long lasting beneficial effects as a result of its contributions to the community rather than short-term one-time donations.

• Kings Mutual prefers to consider the nomination of a small number of beneficiaries with whom a relationship can be built over time rather than multiple charities or causes.

• Kings Mutual believes in the value of supporting the community through “donating” the dedicated time of individual employees during business hours or outside, as well as giving access to the use of company equipment, where appropriate.

• The decision to support or donate to a charity should not serve exclusive personal interests.

Kings Mutual does not typically fund the following type of requests as donations:

• Individual pursuits

• Debt reduction campaigns

• Political parties and candidates

• Religious organizations

• Service clubs

• Goodwill advertising

• Professional solicitors

• Advocacy or social interest groups

• Conferences or meetings

• Individual public, private or parochial schools

• Fundraising activities (i.e. charity runs)

  • Ticket purchase for fundraising activities

Application Deadlines

Donation requests are reviewed as they are received.  Submissions will be provided to the Board of Directors for assessment and approval.  The final deadline for all requests is June 30th.  A company representative will contact successful applicants in the third quarter.
